Hiking is a recent hobby that I’m excited to explore more in the coming year. Getting outside, exploring nature and moving my body feels so good these days and I’m so happy to have a partner who values the activity as highly as I do! Chris and I have been exploring the trails near our house, but have also done the drive to Deep Creek Lake, Maryland to explore the trails there as well! These are the two that we have done and that I highly recommend checking out if you’re heading to Deep Creek in the coming months!
The one and a half mile trail through Swallow Fall is easy for beginners and offers stunning views of the Youghiogheny River which flows along the park’s borders.
The trail took us to Muddy Creek Falls which is breathtaking 53 foot waterfall. I was in awe at the sight since A). ya girl doesn’t hike often and B). A waterfall in Maryland is not something I had seen before! We did this hike in early May and it was the perfect weather to hike through the shaded trails.
Deep Creek State Park
We visited Deep Creek State Park the day after New Years to get some fresh air and cure our hangovers. While the view wasn’t as pretty as Swallow Falls, it was still a great workout and felt good to get outside!
We did Beckman’s Trail because it appeared to be one of the best trails for beginners because it was only two miles and had a slight elevation gain. We had gotten a late start to the trail and knew we would finish around dinner time if we did this particular 2 mile trail.
The other thing we were most excited to find was the Brant Coal Mine. I am a lover of all things old and dilapidated that tell a story and while the coal mine was much smaller than we expected, it was still so fascinating to read about and then chat about on our walk back to the beginning of the trail.
Deep Creek is a three hour drive from Washington DC and we are looking forward to heading out for more visits this year!
