Growing up I thought of my relationship with my Mom like the one between Lorelie and Rory in Gilmore Girls (minus the whole absentee Dad, private school, hunky coffee shop owner part). Their close, best friend, talk every day relationship is what my Mom and I have. I know how amazing that is and how rare it is. She is my best friend. She’s the person I talk to every morning at 6:15am on my way to work. The person I FaceTime when my sick or hurt and need a diagnosis. The person who I call when I’m crying so hard I can’t breathe and when I’m crying equally as hard from pure joy. She is my biggest fan, supporter and hype girl.
Today she turns 60. I’m sure she isn’t super thrilled about me blasting it all over the internet but 2020 is a big year for us Campbell girls- she turns 60 and I turn 30. Milestone years for both of us, but especially her!
As a present for her big birthday, Chris and I have gathered sweet memories and sentiments from the people who love her and are compiling them into a book that she can keep forever. It’s nice to know you’re loved, but it’s even nicer to be told. Since I’ve done many a mushy post over the years in her honor I thought it was time for everyone else to have a chance. Here are just a sprinkling of the messages I received about my sweet Mama.
I was blessed the day you were born. I was given this beautiful little sister. I loved being with you and watching you go through different stages of your life. It was awesome watching you grow into the strong, funny, caring, and loving woman you are today. Sisters have a special bond, I love you Carlene forever and a day. Hope you have a wonderful 60th birthday full of everything you love most.
From evil eyes to “I dos,” we’ve had so many wonderful memories with you. When we think about you, Aunt Carlene, we think about all the things we’d love our daughter to be one day when she grows up: a strong, independent woman, a hard worker, a loving partner, a devoted parent, a hospitable host, a friendly neighbor, a kind friend and a beautiful soul. This family and this world are better off because you are here. We wish you many more Happy Birthdays and chances to share your infectious laugh with everyone around you.
Love, David and Rachel

These are JUST A FEW of the sweet words that her favorite people shared and I can’t wait for her to read the rest.
