With the endless amount of time we have at home right now, you have no excuse to not get your spring cleaning on! It may seem like a daunting task to do a deep clean of your home and I typically leave it for a weekend when we have few plans and has nice weather. There is nothing better than opening up all of the windows and getting to work.
With the COVID-19 pandemic taking over our lives and causing us to stay at home, now is the best time to clean your house and rid it of germs and dirt. Whether you devote a weekend to a deep cleaning or assign one task per day, here are some spring cleaning steps you might not have considered!
Expired refrigerator items- we are all guilty of opening the fridge, grabbing what we need and moving on. Take 5 minutes and actually look at the items in your fridge! Throw out the expired items and give it a good wipe down while you’re there. Not sure how long items are good for? Check out this list HERE.
Deep clean the microwave- we are all guilty of forgetting to cover a dish while its microwaving and inevitably, that is the time it splatters! Take a wet cloth or magic eraser and make it sparkle!
Clean the shower curtain- I had no idea that shower curtains can go through the washing machine until recently. Tips on how to properly wash a liner and curtain can be found HERE.
Snake the drain- this makes me shudder. The drain is the grossest part of the bathroom in my opinion, but it shouldn’t be neglected. Just do it and forget it ever happened!
Swap out the air filter- the inter webs suggest that air filters should be changed every 90 days. Do you change yours that often?
Wash curtains and blankets- take down the curtains and throw them in the washing machine for a quick tumble.
Use pressurized air to clean out keyboard/mouse- whether you eat at your desk while working or not, our keyboards get gross from dust and dirt and food particles. Take a pressurized air can and clean it out.
Shred any sensitive documents that don’t need to be saved- in a world that is mainly digital, most of us still have papers laying around. Take a good look at what you’ve saved, file what needs to be kept and shred/recycle the rest.
Wipe down windows and windowsills- most us just sleep in our bedroom and don’t spend any real time in it so it’s easy to miss the dirt and dust as it gathers. Wipe down all surfaces, walls, furniture and rid the room of particles that you could be breathing in while you sleep.
Clear off shelves and wipe down shelves- while you may tidy your closet shelves from time to time as they get cluttered, when was the last time you took everything out and cleaned?
Vacuum closet floor- don’t forget to vacuum your closet floor (if it’s carpeted) when you do the other rooms! There is bound to be dirt gross things on the carpet where you toss your shoes after a long day.
Laundry Room/Mud Room
Clean out link from dyer- you should be doing this after each load, but a thorough cleaning of the filter doesn’t hurt!
Wipe down shelves- if you have any shelves or surfaces in your laundry room they likely have dust and lint on them. Take a cloth and wipe away the dirt.
Spring cleaning is a chance to sweep away the dirt, germs and dust from the long Winter months and go into a new season with a fresh house. I know I will be particularly grateful for that this year!
