Pop-Up Bars are, well, popping up all over the country. Sorry, I had to do it.
And I’m here for it. In a world where content hungry influencers (I fall in that category) are looking for Instagrammable Moments and Experiences, these temporary bars check all of the boxes.
I recently visited the Drink Company’s bar in the neighborhood of Shaw in Washington DC over a span of two different activations and I have to say, they are killing the game.
The bar is consistently called PUB (Pop Up Bar), but the name changes based on the season and theme. The space houses three bars that are connected by a hallway which allows the owners to create two different larger themes at once. Overall though there are six areas that allow different designs.
But why does it work? As I mentioned, Drink Company checks all of the boxes for perfect IG Content.
Content, content, content. Active Instagram users know it’s all about having interesting, unique and aesthetically appealing content. Drink Company offers up textured walls perfect for Boomerangs, glittery hallways made for Kira Kira videos, and murals that only exist in our dreams. On theme vessels for cocktails are the perfect prop for #DrinkInTheAir photos and no detail is forgotten as ceilings are draped in rich fabric fit for royalty. They really do think of everything and the amount of creativity that goes into each season of the bar is remarkable.
A visit to PUB isn’t only about the photos- it’s also a really fun experience! Whether you are crawling into the body of a monster, stretching out in a blood filled tub, or posing with a life sized Panda you are fully immersing yourself in the moment and theme around you. The Miracle on 7th Street activation left me feeling like I was at the North Pole by sitting in Santa’s sleigh or my own childhood home by gazing at the Christmas Village of tiny houses set up behind the bar.
Share the Love
Drink Company shares the love in two ways: by giving back to local organizations and charities and by resharing snaps taken by visitors.
The Miracle on 7th Street was panda themed! Our pandas at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo are local celebrities in DC and the enthusiasm around the pandas at Drink Company was wonderful! (I say our because I am the Special Event Planner for the zoo). They also promoted ZooLights, our big light display event that runs from November to January. It was so fun to watch patrons sipping on their Bei Bei cocktails (in an adorable panda cup) while wearing ZooLights Panda headbands!
Drink Company is also really great at reposting photos that patrons have taken and shared. It’s a no-brainer and is free marketing for them, but as an Instagram junkie I was pretty pumped to see my photo front and center on their IG page.
While the photo opportunities and creative content are what get people through the doors at PUB, its the experience that keeps them there. I’m a huge fan of Drink Company’s creativity and activations at their 7th street location and I’m anxiously keeping an eye on social media to see what their Spring and Summer themes will be! No word yet, but I have turned on my IG post notifications..
