We’ve all been there. We’ve stood in front of our closet/wardrobe/dresser and exclaimed to no one in particular that we have nothing to wear. The frustration of wanting to feel good and standout when you’ve already worn the items in your closet a million times and can’t do it again. #firstworldproblems
BUT I’ve been there and so has my blogger friend, Nadine, so she challenged herself to find outfit combinations that she hadn’t tried using pieces she had in her closet! She started posting on IG stories every single day for the month of December and I was in awe. Such a simple idea, but a great way to challenge yourself, breathe new life into the pieces you already own, and curb the desire to buy more to fill your closet!
I reached out and asked if she would mind if I tried to encourage folks in Baltimore/DC to join up and participate in #LiftedHerLook. Nadine gave me the green light and I started sharing weekly outfits that I put together after finding a look I liked on @liketoknowit. Since January over 12 ladies have linked up and used the hashtag on Instagram to share their lifted look!
Last month I hosted the first Lifted Her Look meetup with my friend, Ashton of Ashton Kelley Photography. We spent the day in Fells Point/Canton with seven badass babes who all came in their lifted looks! I was so excited to meet new people, connect over this super fun challenge and learn a few things myself.
We wall crawled (one of my most favorite activities) and I shared my knowledge of each of the walls we stopped at. After I finished blabbing, Ashton shared tips and tricks to make our #wallpics even better than before. I learned SO MUCH from her in just a few hours together and already feel more confident in asking strangers to snap a pic of me in public when I don’t have someone tagging along to help out!
STOP 1: Broadway Market
While this wasn’t a mural wall, Broadway Market is currently under construction and Ashton pointed out that this would be our only chance to snap photos like this without hordes of people in the way. Once the market opens it will most definitely be a hot spot and busy most of the time! We practiced posing and feeling comfortable in front of the camera at this stop. I also shared info about two murals on our way to Stop 2!
STOP 2: Johnny Rads – Mural by Michael Owen
This is hands down one of my personal favorite walls in Baltimore City. Michael Owen has done a lot of pieces in the city, but this one is so different and multi-layered in my opinion. We discussed techniques on how to get an IG worthy photo from a stranger at this stop!
STOP 3: BMore Licks
The original intention was to grab lunch together after the walk, but the general consensus was all for ice cream instead! We snapped pics, practiced what we had learned throughout the afternoon and then enjoyed some girl time.
I had the BEST time connecting with incredible women, lifting each other up and exploring a city that I love so much. There is another meet up scheduled for later in May and I can’t wait to see what magic comes from it!
