Have you ever used Rent the Runway? I was under the (very wrong) impress that they only had fancy ball gowns available to rent for special occasions. Spoiler alert: I was wrong.
When RTR reached out inviting me to be a Rent the Runway Insider for two months this Spring, I jumped at the chance. I was shocked to find out that they offer designer clothing, purses and jewelry and the Unlimited Membership allows you to pick four items to wear at a time! You can choose any combination of items- all four pieces can create one outfit or four dresses can get you through a week of work (Hellllo Summer Fridays!). You can also keep each piece for as long or as little as you’d like! I kept a Cupcakes & Cashmere jumper for three weeks waiting for the perfect opportunity to wear it, but sent back dresses and tops after one wear just to get another piece sent to my door. Some items have been duds and I couldn’t even zip them closed and others have fit like a glove. That’s the best part of being able to send things back immediately, something new (that hopefully fits) shows up at your door within two days.
Speaking of- did I mention that the items come right to your door? It’s magic. I love coming home from a long day and spotting the black garment back on my front step as I get out of my car. I LOVE that my Unlimited Membership items come in a black garment bag so I can hang them before wearing or take them with me on weekend trips easily!
In full disclosure, Rent the Runway gifted me two months of an Unlimited Membership to try for myself in hopes that I’d share how awesome it is. I only share products that I truly enjoy and this is one of them. The $159 price tag per month is a little steep for me to continue my membership on my own, but if you are attending a lot of events and buying designer clothes anyway, this is a great alternative option.
You can also enjoy RTR without the monthly commitment. You can rent pieces individually by visiting the showroom in Georgetown (which is gorgeous by the way) or shopping online.
Now that you are up to speed on the details I want to share a few of my favorite pieces from the 25 that I tried over the two month timespan.
Striped Button Down Jumpsuit
Rental Price: $22.50
Thoughts: I didn’t know how I’d feel about this jumpsuit at first. Stripes, neutral colors, big tortoise buttons down the front- also, would I have a horrible camel toe from it? I was soooo wrong and loved this jumpsuit enough to contemplate keeping it. The neutral tones were perfect against my pale skin as I eased myself out of winter layers and the tortoise was a fun “pattern” to incorporate with jewelry and accessorites.
The Evelyn Sweater
Rental Price: $37.50
Thoughts: This bright top was the rainbow sweatshirt I had been searching for. The Navy felt safe and in my color palette while the rest were a bit of a stretch for me, but this was what began my love affair with red clothing!
Striped Jonah Top
Rental Price: $51
Thoughts: The shape of this top is not something I would typically go for, but trying new things was a huge part of this RTR journey and I’m so happy I did! While the material wrinkled easily after sitting in the car or movie theater, it was great for walking around and I got so many compliments on it at the farmers market!
Floral Marissa Dress
Rental Price: $22.50
Thoughts: I chose this dress in the RTR Showroom in Georgetown for the Insiders kickoff party. It was the perfect length, flattering cut and again with the reds and florals. I loved pairing it with my leather jacket and chunky booties, but think it would look great in the summer with wedges or slides as well. It was the perfect piece to dress up or dress down!
English Rose Midi Dress
Rental Price: $30
Thoughts: This was such a great dress for a casual Memorial Day Weekend wedding celebration! The flowy fabric was crucial in the humid heat, the color was bright enough to stand out, but muted enough to not look harsh against my pale skin. It was a great length and hugged in the right places. I loved this dress!
Floral Grayson Skirt
Rental Price: $63.75
Thoughts: I’m a huge Tanya Taylor fan now and am gravitating towards all things flowy and floral. The lines of this skirt were surprising and added a fun feature to it as well as the frill and bright pop of blue. I love this shade of blue and have added it to my list of colors I love to wear!
I’ve had such a good time picking out new pieces that are out of my comfort zone to style and try! Through my two months of working with RTR I’ve learned that I love long flowy skirts more than short ones, I really like wearing red and it looks good on me, and that sneakers and skirts are a combo I didn’t even know I needed in my life. I’ve learned about brands I had never heard of- Tanya Taylor being one that I’m now obsessed with and I’ve grown in my personal style and how I look at clothes. Who knew that two months of free clothes would have such a profound effect on me? But I’m happy it did! Whether you sign up for the Unlimited Membership or just rent pieces here and there, I highly recommend checking out Rent the Runway!
