We started the month of music off with First Thursdays in Baltimore. We used to LOVE going to First Thursdays at Canton’s Waterfront Park hosted by WMDT- I explained it to a co-worker as a chance to see all of your friends in one place each month. Truly it was a huge hangout for our group of friends and you couldn’t go far without seeing someone you knew. We went to spend time with our friend Pete and had a great time!
BEER OLYMPICS! Our friends host a Beer Olympics each August and even though this was the third annual Olympics, it was our first time attending! Chris and I were Norway and dressed the part in Viking helmets and fur vests (RIP). We had a great time with friends and it was a gorgeous day on the water, but we learned that we are not great at beer competitions. Well, let me rephrase that, we were not shocked that I am not good at beer competitions. Chris may be looking for a new partner next year…. But we had so much fun and plan to do it again!
So many visitors came to the zoo this month and said hi! My cousins visited on a school field trip and my sorority sister from college brought her little ones to visit for the day. It MAKES MY DAY to have folks I know and love show up to the zoo! (this photo was taken inside the Reptile Discovery Center while my cousin Ian was there for the day).
More music! Chris and I had a date night earlier in the month. We had Happy Hour at Facebook (where he works), went to a Kelly Towles art show and then ended the night at the 9:30 Club for an Amon Tobin concert. We danced our booties off and got home way later than usual on a school night, but it was worth it.
The zoo has another property in Front Royal called the Smithsonian Conservation and Biology Instutiue. It’s closed to the public, but we host an event every October on the property so we went for a planning visit. It was the perfect day with a light breeze and the view from this part of the property is stunning.
We have made friends in Silver Spring and were thrilled with Audrey and Patrick invited us over for a bbq and to hang out with their adorable pups. This is Ivan and my rose which was delicious!
Baseball! We went to two Orioles games this month- once with Chris’ family and once with mine. It was so fun to spend time with our favorite people in one of our favorite places. The O’s won both games!
I started a new fitness challenge with three of my best friends – Morning Meltdown 100 with Beach Body. I’m on Day 9 out of 100, but I’m REALLY enjoying it! I even did my workouts on vacation in Disney…that’s saying something!
We went to our THIRD Orioles game at the end of the month, but this time it wasn’t at Camden Yards. We saw the Orioles play the Nationals at Nat’s Park from the Mayor’s box! We had a great time attending our first game at this ballpark and even though the Orioles lost, we had a good time and loved being able to metro home.
We closed out the month with a trip to Orlando to visit with our friends and head to Walt Disney World! More on that in an upcoming blog post!
We packed August full of fun things and activities and the next couple of months are looking even better. September is the start of my favorite season and I’m here for what’s to come!
