Ahhhhh! October is here! If you haven’t seen my calendar of all things October that went up a few days ago you can check it out HERE.
In the meantime, we need to recap September. This felt like the longest, but also busiest month and I know October is going to quickly take that title, but we did a lot in September that I want to recap and remember.
After we got back from our whirlwind trip to Orlando over Labor Day weekend we tried to wind down a little that week but we had tickets to Dough Boys! This was one of the first podcasts I listened to with Chris and it was really fun to go watch a live recording and meet Nick Wiger and Mike Mitchell. I also really liked the Netflix series, LOVE which Mike was in.
Chris went to San Diego for a bachelor weekend so I took the opportunity to spend a weekend at home with my parents. My usual 2 hour drive turned into 4+ (no idea why), but I had a great time with them. We went to a music/folk festival in town, enjoyed our favorite foods and went on long walks.
Our friend Brandon turned 30! We celebrated at R House in Baltimore with a surprise party that his wife Annie planned. I had a great time and we loved being able to spoil him a little!
Mar came to stay with us for three weeks! I loved having him with us for so long and really cherish the time with him as he gets older.
Zoo Uncorked was the first event on the Zoo grounds that I produced last year as a new employee. It was really cool to see the calendar year of events come full circle. The event was a huge success and one of the smoothest I think we’ve had yet. The weather was great and the wine was flowing! I also had the chance to ride in the cart and get a photo with my favorite zoo resident- Sherman the Screaming Hairy Armadillo
We have made awesome friends in Silver Spring and enjoy catching up with them as often as possible. Sara and Justin met us out at a new restaurant called Silver Strings to try the food and cocktails. It was hit or miss on the food and cocktails, but the ambiance was great! We are hoping to visit again in a few months and try again to see if they’ve worked all the kinks out, but the company was great.
Two days after Zoo Uncorked was The Fast & The Fierce 5K at Freedom Plaza in downtown DC. We had so many attendees run the 5K in support of our Conservation Nation efforts and the dogs in costume were probably my favorite part!
Chris’ friend who has quickly become one of my favorite people is a comedian in LA. He was on Americas Got Talent (watch the video HERE) and is crazy talented. He was headlining a tour that happened to come through Baltimore this month so we drove on a Sunday night to laugh our asses off and got home Monday morning around 1am. #worthit
Chris and I celebrated our first anniversary this month! It’s hard to believe that a whole year has passed since our wedding day. It’s been a good one and for our paper anniversary I had one of Chris’ best friends design this piece for us. I’m hoping to have one made each year by different artists highlighting something big that happened that year and make a gallery wall. Chris took me out to an AMAZING dinner at Aqua al 2 and we enjoyed our anniversary cake from Sugar Bakers.
We had family in town for a whirlwind weekend of DC tours at the end of the month. My half brother, his mother and his girlfriend (who left DC was his Fiance!) all came to stay with us. I gave them a tour of the Zoo and our Uncle gave us a tour of the monuments along the National Mall. It was so nice to see my brother since he lives in Georgia and visits are few and far between.
It felt like we were moving non-stop this month, but October is going to give me a run for my money! Keep your eyes on the blog this month for fun Fall themed activities and I’ll do another recap in a few weeks!
